Find out if it’s the right time for your child to get braces in Dearborn, MI.

You want your child to have a beautiful smile, but it can be difficult to tell whether they may grow into their smile or if they may require orthodontic treatmentbraces at some point during their lives. Many children have benefited from getting braces from their Dearborn, MI dentist, Dr. Kalil Abraham, and your little one could too! Find out when your child should start considering braces and which kind could be best for them.

How old is your child?

There is no set age for your child to have their first orthodontic appointment. But once their permanent teeth come in (usually around 7 years old), it is typically a good time to get an orthodontic consultation.

What dental issues is your child dealing with?

A child may need braces for a number of reasons, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overlapping or overcrowding
  • Malocclusions (“bad bite”)

A malocclusion means there is a difference in the size of the upper and lower jaws. An overbite is when the upper jaw is bigger than the lower jaw and an underbite is when the lower jaw grows larger than the upper jaw.

Certain issues such as overcrowding, gaps between teeth, and overlapping teeth can increase your child’s chances of developing cavities. When your child visits our Dearborn dental office for a routine visit, we will most likely notice any issues. We will then be able to talk to you about what orthodontic treatment could correct their teeth or jaw alignment issues.

Even if you come into our office right away for an evaluation, it doesn’t mean that your child’s orthodontic treatment will start right away. But we will be able to detect if there are any issues and decide the best time for treatment. Executive Dentistry is here to provide patients in the Dearborn, MI area with the best orthodontic treatment possible. If you need to schedule an orthodontic consultation for your child, give us a call today.
